I think of you on Jakku, curled up in on yourself, alone and frightened. Waiting.
I think of you here, on the Finalizer, where you belong. Where you've always belonged
I think of you while either of us are training, on the ship. Or meditating. I think of you in various states of dress and undress. During sleep, during the day cycle. When I'm alone in my quarters, imagining what you're doing in yours.
Should I continue? [ ...he could get even more graphic. ]
[She sighed, glad that no one was around to hear the sudden, surprised exhale of breath. Whatever she'd been expecting, if she'd been expecting anything at all, those particular thoughts were nowhere close to where she thought any of this was going to go.]
You saw that in my head. How lonely I was, the nights spent crying and scared.
... With you, you mean.
[She needs a moment more to process what exactly the last part of the last message means, and damnably, her heart beat just a little faster, just a little harder against her ribs.
Worst of all ... she'd be lying if she tried to say that she didn't think of him in exactly the same ways.]
Are those thoughts terribly distracting? When I think about you, I often find myself neglecting what I'm supposed to be doing, and what I'm supposed to be focusing on. I find that it's difficult, sometimes, to think of much else.
[ he's never been a good student, Rey. distractions from his lessons or plans rarely end up disappointing him.
but, where she's concerned... ] You can't let your concentration slip in the midst of battle, however. It can be dangerous depending upon the situation.
I will make sure to add concentration exercises to your training repertoire — teach you to focus and block out external influences, when using the Force. [ and he knows just how he wants to proceed with such a task, as well.

I would so hate to keep you from your duties. Even if I'm only in your thoughts.
[There is some truth in the statement. But mostly, even if she never says as such out loud, it is quite thrilling to know that she's found a place there.
But more importantly...]
I know. I still have much to learn - but I trust that I'll learn quickly. I've been a good student thus far, haven't I?
And you've been the best teacher I could have asked for.
[A good teacher, but completely frustrating in other ways, when he wants to be, when it pleases him. Like now.]
You have to know that now I won't be able to stop thinking about this.
[ two solar cycles pass, during which Ren secures their transport to Jakku— an Upsilon-class shuttle, not his own so as not to arouse suspicion— and he meditates on what Rey will choose to do.
he's seen from her memories how she suffered under Plutt, how those experiences shaped her formative years, and he's come to the realization that if Rey chooses against vengeance at the last moment, in the final hour, he'll take it upon himself to end the blobfish once and for all, to ease her torment.
it's not something he'd do for just any of the Knights of Ren— only for her.
he collects her from her quarters and they board the shuttle in secret, launching into hyperspace a good distance away from the Finalizer to maintain stealth. once in Jakku orbit, he turns to her from the co-pilot's seat; he's let her fly many times already, given her prowess. ]
...I've set the coordinates for Niima Outpost. [ he looks her over, quietly assessing. ] Are you ready?
[Rey doesn't yet know what she's going to do. While the comment was made in the spur of the moment, and the anger she felt was very real, all she's ever really done is imagined being able to take out her anger and frustration and hopelessness on those that have caused it, but -
But she's never had reason to believe that she'd ever have the opportunity to do so. And now that it's looming in front of her, she isn't sure that when she's facing him again, she'll be able to ... take her revenge. But she wasn't alone in this quest, and if she can trust in one thing, it's that Kylo won't hesitate.
Her mentor. Her teacher. And ... whatever else there might be brewing there, she doesn't know, but it's ... something.
She's silent as they make their way onto the shuttle, and silent as they launch, and silent as she stares into the blue and white that is hyperspace, only pulled from her thoughts by the query.
She probably looks nervous. She is nervous. It's unbecoming of the person she's supposed to be now, but it's unavoidable. Still, she tries to swallow those feelings, to be as confident and unforgiving as is expected of her. He can probably see right through her.] I am. [A breath.] As ready as I'll ever be.

So you want to be in a small, tightly-enclosed space with me, sans whiskey. What are you proposing we do to pass the time?

Does it? Hardly my fault if that's immediately where your mind goes.
[She can't resist poking a little bit more.]
I'm flattered. I didn't know you thought of me in that way.
